Arctic Monkeys slate Ivor Novello Awards

Arctic MonkeysIn an interview with Q magazine (August), Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders revealed he felt the Ivor Novello award his band received for their debut album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ had been ‘cheapened’ by The Ting Tings being given the accolade:

“The Ivor Novello Awards used to feel like the most meaningful ones but I think they’ve been cheapened.

“I don’t want to be horrible to The Ting Tings but they won it and it’s supposed to be for songwriting. There’s a lot better songwriting ability out there.”

The Monkey’s third effort Humbug is out on August 24th on Domino
